Man gets 45 years in prison for Kansas City kidnapping

(KANSAS CITY, Mo., AP) — A federal judge has sentenced a Kentucky man to 45 years in prison for a January 2015 robbery, carjacking and kidnapping of a 67-year-old man in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/299gS65 ) reports that 26-year-old Robert C. Caldwell pleaded guilty in February to charges of kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, carjacking, using a firearm during a crime of violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Caldwell and an accomplice held the victim captive for seven hours, beat him and told them they had killed his wife, which wasn’t true.

U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson asked the judge to sentence Caldwell to life in prison, saying he began his criminal career as a juvenile. Caldwell’s attorney, assistant federal public defender Robert Kuchar, argued for a 22-year sentence.

Caldwell’s sentence doesn’t include a chance for parole.
