Mules golf sits 12th after first round of NCAA Championships

(DENVER, Colo.) — The Mules golf team shot an opening round 296 and sits in 12th place at eight-over par after the first round of the NCAA Championships at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. The top eight teams after 54 holes will advance to the match play portion of the championships.

Alex Springer shot a one-under par 71 to lead the Mules on day one. He is tied for 17th. Cole Dillon finished the day at one-over par, 73, and is tied for 35th.

Travis Mays shot a three-over par 75 to finish the opening day tied for 57th, while Shayne Allan and Teddy Jones both finished at five-over par 77 and are tied for 78th.

St. Leo leads the team race at 10-under par with Hugo Bernard firing an opening round 65, seven-under par, to lead the individual race.

The Mules are set to tee off at noon Wednesday in the second round. They will tee off on the back nine.
