(INDIANAPOLIS) — The Mules wrestling team competed at the Midwest Classic Tournament in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon.
Daide Agnew finished the day 1-2 wrestling at 133 pounds. He started with a loss by pin to No. 5 Nolan Whitely of Wheeling Jesuit. Agnew bounced back in the consolation round with a pin at 5:30 of James Harrison of Pittsburgh-Jonestown. He ended his day with an 11-7 decision loss to Devin Rogers of Findlay.
Caleb Crabtree went 1-2 on the day in the 141-pound weight class. Crabtree lost in a 10-6 decision to Ryan Skonieczny of Findlay. In the consolation bracket, Crabtree recorded a 13-4 major decision victory over Stetson Loader of Adams State. In his last match of the day, Crabtree was pinned by Jay Sheppard of Emmanuel College.
Steffon Fassett wrestled at 149 pounds for the Mules and finished 2-2. Fassett won a 12-7 decision over Avery Martin of Lindsay Wilson in his first match. Fassett fell in his second match of the day to Michael Screptock of Tiffin by way of a pin. In the consolation bracket, Fassett won a 5-3 decision over Andrew Hoskins of Campbellsville to advance to the next round. In his final match of the day, Fassett lost by tech fall to Dominick Nania of Wheeling Jesuit.
Tyler Horton competed at 157 pounds at the tournament and lost both of his matches. Horton dropped his first match to Jordan Rinken of Upper Iowa, and lost to Reyse Wallbrown of Wheeling Jesuit in his second match.
Joey Reis scored three team points and went 1-2 on the day at 165 pounds for the Mules. Reis was pinned in first match by Zak Benitz of Upper Iowa and moved to the consolation bracket. He advanced to the third round of the consolation bracket thanks to a bye and a forfeit by injury. In his final match of the day, Reis lost an 11-5 decision to Nicholas Skonieczny of Findlay.
Archie Williams wrestled at 174 for Central Missouri. Williams won his first match of the day in an 11-8 decision over Jacob Johnson of Indiana Tech. In the quarterfinals, Williams lost to Nick Vandermeer of Lake Eire College in a 15-8 decision. In the consolation bracket, Williams was disqualified in his match with No. 7 John Blankenship of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.
Mike Boyd competed for the Mules at 184 pounds and finished 0-2. Boyd lost a 7-1 decision to No. 7 Brandon O’Neill of Ashland, then was defeated by Jaden Olearnick of Western State by sudden victory.
Robert Schneider went 1-2 wrestling at 197 pounds at the tournament. Schneider won his first match of the day in a 9-5 decision over Kaleb Matchett of Tiffin. In his second match, he lost a 5-3 decision to Cody Brundage of Newberry College. In his final match, Schneider was pinned in 2:41 by Dalton Ishmal of Findlay.
Nick Lovejoy wrestled at 285 and finished 2-2. Lovejoy lost his first match to Evan Loughman of Lake Erie in a 7-3 decision. Lovejoy won by sudden victory on Tuli Laulu of Adams State. Lovejoy earned his second consecutive victory with an 11-0 major decision over Devin Morrow of Cumberlands. In his final match of the day, Lovejoy lost to Coltyn Pease of McKendree by injury default.
