Nicholas Paul “Nick” Schmitt, age 29, of Independence, Missouri, died Sunday, April 1, at his home.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Joe Miller and Father Joe Bathke officiating.
The family received friends from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home followed by a prayer service at 7:30. Honorary pallbearers will be Jarrett Schroeger, James Schmitt, Henry Schmitt, Andrew Schmitt, and Erik Steidley.
He was born June 25, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the son of Paul and Tami (Miller) Schmitt. Nick graduated from Warrensburg High School in 2006. He played football all four years and was able to play as lineman side-by- side with his brother.
Nick worked as a warehouse supervisor for Lanter Distribution in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a great uncle who loved his niece and nephews very much.
Nick is survived by his parents, Paul and Tami Schmitt of Warrensburg; his sister, Tanya Schroeger and husband, Michael Schroeger, Jr., of Shawnee, Kansas; his brother, Matt Schmitt and wife, Rachel, of Blue Springs, Missouri; nephews, Jarrett Schroeger, and James and Henry Schmitt; niece, Peyton Schroeger; maternal grandfather, Elmer Miller of Chandler, Arizona; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Charmayne Schmitt, and his maternal grandmother, Vivian Miller.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County and can be left in care of the funeral home.
