(LAWRENCE, Kan.) — The No. 5-ranked Central Missouri Mules Golf team shot a final round 296 to win the MIAA Championship tournament by 16 strokes over the next closest team. The tournament title is the fourth in the last five years for UCM and gives the Mules fifth regular season crown in the last six years.
Cy Moritz continued his solid tournament with a one-over par 73 to finish at four-under par, 212, to claim the individual championship. Travis Mays finished in a tie for second place at one-over par, 217. Robby Hughey finished in fourth place at two-over par after a final round 77.
Alex Springer finished in a tie for ninth place with a three-round total of six-over par, 222. Sam Midgal finished at +11 and in a tie for 23rd place.
The Mules finished at three-over par as a team for the tournament with second place Northeastern State finishing at 19-over par.
Mays was named the MIAA Golfer of the Year after accumulating 43.5 points over the course of the conference season. Moritz (4th, 26.75), Teddy Jones (8th, 22.5), Sam Midgal (14th, 14) and Robby Hughey (15th, 12.75) were all named to the All-MIAA team.
The Mules will return to action May 5-7 at the NCAA-II Central/Midwest Regional at the Fox Run Golf Course in Eureka, Mo.
