Roy Dale Sturgis Sr.

Roy Dale Sturgis Sr., 63, of Blue Springs, Missouri, (formerly of Holden, Missouri) died May 10 at home surrounded by his family.

Visitation services are scheduled for 4-6:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, with Masonic Rites services at 6:30 p.m. at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden.

He was born Jan. 4, 1954, in Warrensburg, Missouri. Roy was the son of Richard Allen and C. Janette Sturgis, both deceased. He graduated from Holden High School in 1972 and settled into a career at Bendix/Allied Signal (now Honeywell). Roy married Karen Hammons of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, in August 1972 and they had three children. Throughout his life, he was active in many school and community activities, including the Holden Jaycees, the Holden Optimist Club, the Boy Scouts of America and the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He served multiple terms on the Holden R-III School Board. He also volunteered his time with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Holden High School football athletic program. Roy was also involved in the Holden business community where he and Karen owned Pizza Express and then Sturgis Realty.

He is survived by his children, Tammy Henke (Bryce), Amy Westacott (Mike), and Roy Dale Sturgis Jr. (Laura); sister, Carolyn Sturgis; and grandchildren, Austin Alvidrez, Claire Henke, Caelan Westacott, Layla Sturgis, Charlotte Henke and Emery Sturgis.

The family has designated the Holden Eagles Quarterback Club for memorial contributions.
