Warner Chosen USTFCCCA National Field Athlete of the Year

(NEW ORLEANS) — Less than one week after winning her third straight hammer throw national championship and three NCAA All-American Awards, Central Missouri track and field student-athlete Heavin Warner was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2016 Women’s National Field Athlete of the Year.

Warner recently completed a five-year track and field career at the University of Central Missouri. She was a three-time National Champion in the hammer throw (2014-16). In doing so, she became the first Jennie to ever be a three-time national champion in any event, and the first student-athlete in Division II to win three straight hammer throw national championships. In 2016, she became the 20th woman to ever win three Division II national championships and the 14th to do so in consecutive years.

At this season’s national championships, she broke her own Division II record in the hammer throw with her winning throw of 227-5. She is currently ranked seventh in the nation and third collegiately, and has all 12 of the top Division II throws of all time. Warner will go on to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials this July in Eugene, Oregon. In 2015, Warner finished 12th at the U.S. Championships.

Warner also finished her career with 10 All-American awards and every UCM throwing record. Her 10 All-American awards have her tied for third in Jennies history. She has also won All-American awards in the discus, shot put and weight throw. Warner has twice been named the USTFCCCA Central Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year the last two seasons.

She is just the second UCM Track and Field student-athlete to be named USTFCCCA Field Athlete of the Year since its inception in 2006. She joins Lindsay Lettow who won the award in 2011 and 2012.
